So somehow I got myself into a situation where I am in a playoff gambling pool put together by @gretzkybetzkys (On Twitter), and it's got some of the best NHL gamblers that I know on Twitter. If you are interested in seeing all the official rules for this contest check out @gretzkybetzkys where he'll be posting all rules and updates.

But essentially, I got matched up with @griffybets in Round 1 and he's got the western conference matchups, I've got the east, and we're going to put one bet up head to head and first to cash three bets wins.

If I already didn't have enough to root for in this game with the Maple Leafs drawing the Lightning in Round 1, I am going to add my play of the night against Griffy on this game too.

At the very least, the Maple Leafs get to open this first-round matchup at home. I think there is a different feeling in the city of Toronto coming into this playoff run and the Scotiabank Center will be rocking before the puck drops. I think it will make the Leafs feel comfortable to start the game, but at the same time, I don't think it will bother the Lightning; these guys have been there and done that too many times by now to think a crowd is going to throw them off.

The Lightning pummeled the Maple Leafs in the last matchup winning 8-1, but the time before that Toronto did the same thing to them beating them 6-2. The favorite has gone 2-2 in these matchups, both winning a game on the road and a game at home.

Now we've heard quotes from Maple Leafs Head Coach Sheldon Keefe saying he is expecting a "borderline violent" series against the Lightning. Something about those quotes says to me that the Leafs don't exactly know how they want to approach this series and that Sheldon Keefe is putting those quotes to try and catch some NHL attention, in a kind of "Hey watch for this stuff" type manner. I think that's why the term "Violent" was used by Keefe because I think he knows he can't win if the series goes that way.

For that reason, I feel that game one is going to be fairly well behaved, on top of both teams having lethal powerplays that you can't give chances to in the playoffs.

With both teams struggling to defend each other in 2 matchups in April, I think we're going to see somewhat of a feel-out game.  Whatever worked in past matchups between these two shouldn't work tonight, they've had each other's tape on repeat since this matchup was locked in.

The total is set at 6.5 for Game One. I think that's too high, for the first game of this series. These offenses are both explosive, but both will have to figure out new ways to score on one another. At the time of writing the under is taking 39% of the bets and 69% of the money.

Some sharp money seems to be on the under, and that's what I like as well.

I got under 6.5 @ -121 (@PointsBet Ontario)
