The Pittsburgh Pirates go on the road tonight, for the first of a four game set in Miami against the Marlins. The Pirates have lost nine straight games, and the Marlins will be sending Braxton Garrett to the mound who has only allowed one run in his last 11.1 innings pitched.

Last year Garrett made three starts against the Pirates, and in those three starts he struck out &+ batters in all three, while setting his career high strikeouts with 11 against the Pirates last July.

You could argue that the Pirates are striking out less this season when facing left handed pitching, which is true, but I think that is reflected in a lower total on his strikeout prop here at 5.5. Garrett throws a ton of strikes, he ranks in the 99th percentile in BB%, while having three pitches with a whiff rate of 30% of higher, with his slider getting 45% swing and miss.

The Pirates have let four of the last six left handed starting pitchers cover their strikeout prop, and they have let five straight starting pitchers cover that line as well. Garrett has a 36.5 K% in the month of June, I think he keeps the Pirates off balance here again tonight.

Official Pick: Braxton Garrett Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-130) TheScore Bet
