The Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels are set to square off tonight in LA for the second straight night, tonight the Angels will be sending Griffin Canning to the mound to defend home field, after losing last night 2-1. Canning has gotten touched up early this season, having a 6.14 ERA. Facing a tough Red Sox line up, I think he is going to struggle.

Official Pick: Griffin Canning Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-115)

Canning has only covered this line in one of his six starts so far this season, and the Red Sox have the third lowest strikeout percentage when facing right handed pitching. The Red Sox can load up their line up with left handed hitters, and that's who Canning has struggled to get out this season.

Through Canning's first six starts, he is only striking out left handed batters at a 14.3% rate, while only striking righties out 23.5% of the time, the Red Sox don't swing and miss very often, having the fourth best whiff rate as a team.

Aside from getting batters to swing and miss, I think Canning is going to have to deal with runners on the base paths. The Red Sox have the best team batting average vs RHP this season, and Canning is giving up a .318 average on balls put in play.

Canning is averaging less than a strikeout per inning this season, and I don't see him going more than five innings here, with the Red Sox seeing 3.93 pitches per plate appearance. Under strikeout bets aren't fun to sweat, but this one feels right.
