The Nashville Predators will be on the second night of a road back to back after beating the New Jersey Devils in overtime 4-3, while losing the expected goals for battle 2.90 to 2.34. This was the Predators second straight overtime win after beating the Anaheim Ducks, just four days ago.

Tonight, the Predators will be matching up with the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. The Predators have dominated this match up historically, winning eight straight against the Islanders dating back to February 2018. It's hard to argue with eight straight, but I think this is a trap game for the Predators, and I love the Islanders on moneyline tonight, let's talk about it...

The Islanders have been playing have been playing some solid hockey recently, they lost their last game to the Flyers, which was the second game of a home and home series, but prior to that the Islanders had rattled off four straight wins.

The Islanders have also done a good job defending their home ice, boasting an 8-3 record, and winning six of their last seven home games. At home they are only giving up 2.17 goals against per 60, compared to a Predators team that is allowing 3.86 goals against/60.

The true bright spot of this Islanders team has been Ilya Sorokin, who is leading the NHL in Goals Saved Above Expected, and has just been lights out this season, having a 2.18 Goals Against Average and a .933 Save Percentage. At times this year year he hasn't gotten the offensive support but the Islanders have scored three or more goals in seven of their last 10 games, and are 10-2 in games that Sorokin has started where they have scored three or more goals.

Coming into this game, the Predators are 1-5 in their last six games on no days rest, but are 1-0 to start this season. On top of that the Predators are 2-7 in their last 9 games, in a third game in four days, and will likely have Kevin Lankinen in between the pipes, after Saros who faced 31 shots in last nights win against the Devils.

Lankinen has only started 5 games this season, giving up three in three of those five starts, he hasn't been bad by any means, but he will be going head to head with the hottest goalie in the NHL.

Nothing is confirmed yet, with the goaltending, but given the back to back, and the Islanders being on two days of rest, and their next game being against the Chicago Blackhawks, I am fully expecting Sorokin to start this game. The Islanders lost three games to this Predators teams last season, all by one goal, I think the Islanders will be focused on this one coming off of the loss, with no one but the Blackhawks to look forward to. I think the Islanders are going to want some revenge here from two weeks ago, and are luckily catching the Predators on a third in four and second game of a back to back situation.

The Predators have played extra time in three of their last five games, and were lucky to get that win last night scoring the game tying goal with eight seconds left in the third period, they came out on top of three of the four contests that went to extra time, between the extra minutes and the heavy schedule, I think this is a let down spot for a Predators team that has won six of their last eight.
