The NHL Playoffs started off on Monday with a bunch of blowouts, and a shootout between the LA Kings and Edmonton Oilers, not exactly what you would have expected on night one.

Tonight the Pittsburgh Penguins are traveling to New York to play game one against the Rangers, and to be quite honest I like the Penguins tonight in game one, but I have a personal rule about fading Igor and I don't know if today is the day to break that rule. The Rangers Money Line is taking 77% of the bets and 95% of the money.

That's just not the type of game I like to get involved in from a side perspective, but I do have a few plays on this game to break down.

Play #1: 1st Period Under -1.5 (-120) - Bet365

As I mentioned before, my gut is telling me Penguins tonight. I am not worried about them because they have been there and done that. The Penguins always seem to be in the mix during the playoffs, they have now made the playoffs in 16 straight seasons so I expect them to settle in fairly easily.

On the other side, the Rangers don't have as much playoff experience as a franchise, they still have Igor Shesterkin in the net. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's hard not to feel confident when taking the ice knowing you have that guy behind you.

This season the New York Rangers were the second most profitable team to the first period under with a record of 32-48-2 returning +17.77 units.

The Pittsburgh Penguins were the fourth most profitable team to the first period under. They had a record of 34-44-3 returning +13.52 units.

In a Game One of a playoff series, I think there you are going to see each team feel each other out, try and figure out what matchups are going to happen, and figure out what the other team is game planning.

This total went under in 3 of the 4 matchups these two teams played this year. I like under 1.5 goals at -120 for 0.50u.

Play #2: Under 0.5 Goals First 10 Minutes (+100) - Bet365

This is basically an extension of my first play, and why I only played 0.50u on it. I am going to put the other 0.50u and put in on the no goal in the first ten minutes.

This is pretty much the same handicap as the first play, also more based on the feeling-out process that I think we are going to see between these two teams.

Play #3: 2 Leg Parlay: PIT@NYR UNDER 6.5 / Florida Panthers Moneyline (+103) - Bet365

I know this is a Rangers v. Penguins preview, but I had to throw the Panthers ML on with an alternative total, I like the Penguins tonight, and if that's the case I think it's a 3-2 game, and an empty netter possibly sends it over.

So I'll quickly break down the Panther's pick quick. The Panthers are expected to win game one at home, no doubt about it. But I think they saw two things last night. They saw a gassed-up Maple Leafs team that could be tough to beat if they keep playing that way, and they saw that Tampa is still beatable after their crazy run coming into the postseason.

I think there is a lot of motivation for Florida to get rid of Washington quickly because I think a lot of these other Eastern Conference team series have the potential to be a long and drawn-out. I think they come out and assert their dominance tonight in game one.

Now, let's talk about the total quick. As I said, I could easily see this thing falling 6 and me sitting there drenched in sweat after watching  3 unders in one game. But a lot of sharp money seems to be coming in on the under 5.5 The under is taking 41% of bets at the time of writing but is getting 77% of the money.

A lot of people also seem to like New York tonight, in general, and if New York wins, this game is going under.
