Guess who’s back? Rockies vs Padres.
Can Dylan Cease and the Padres keep the Colorado Rockies quiet?
Padres host the Rockies in a NL West matchup, which see’s the hosts 6.5 games off top spot, while the Rockies are 14 games back. Both teams have a 6-4 record over their last 10, with the Rockies on a 5 game win streak, and finally hitting the ball well. The Padres have split their season with a 22-22 record but are currently losing the H2H this season with Colorado leading 3-2.
I’m going to keep this one short and sweet! Starting with the Home team, San Diego are a middle of the pack team in terms of defence, allowing opponents an average of 4.4 Runs per game. With the Rockies Team Total line being 2, we are going to focus on this number. Of the Padres 44 games this season, they have allowed opponents 2 or more runs in 36. Dylan Cease has been a solid arm for the Padres, with a 5-2 record and a 2.19 ERA across his first 8 games. Cease has allowed opponents to score 2 or more runs in 4/4 games this season. This will only be Cease’s 4th start against the Rockies. Over the last 3 starts, he’s allowed the Rockies 1, 5 & 3 runs.
Over to the visiting Colorado, they have been fairly consistent all year. While the wins aren’t coming in for them, they have been able to knock in a few runs. They have scored 2 or more in 30 of their 41 games to start the year, and have also performed a lot better recently, scoring 2 or more in 8 of their last 10, as well as averaging 5.8 runs per game over their last 5 games, which includes a 5-4 win against San Diego last night. Everyone knows about Coors Field and how batter friendly it is, so I wanted to take a look at the Rockies while they play away from home. They have scored 2 or more runs in 12 of their 20 away games, and more recently, 6 in their last 8! Colorado rank on the bottom 10 for runs per game, averaging 3.85, and they average 3.35 on the road.
Over the last 20 Head to Heads between the two sides (since the beginning of 2023) the Padres have allowed the Rockies to score 2 or more in 15, 3 or more in 11, and only blanking them once.
Colorado Rockies Team Total Over 2 @ 1.65
This is by far my favourite play in the board today, and that is why I’m going to be laying 3U. I think the Rockies have been consistent enough scoring a minimum of 2 runs. I think Cease is a good pitcher, but he can be hit, and if the Rockies can can a run in the first 5, I think at worse we push and get our money back at 2 runs, but I’m confident the Rockies can keep their hot bats going and push on for the cash!💰
