The NBA finals tip off in just an hour with the most prevalent factor being the health of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis has been sidelined since game five of the Eastern Conference Finals with a knee injury and was initially listed as doubtful for tonight’s game. However his status was just recently changed to questionable, which certainly serves as hopeful news for the Bucks.

The status of the Bucks star determines a lot going into this series, with the most established issue being that the Bucks could be without their two time MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in Antetokounmpo.. Simply put he’s one of the most unstoppable players in the world right now and the Bucks will need their tandem of Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday to step up if they hope to rally for a road win.

If Giannis does sit game one that’s spectacular news for the Suns. Phoenix is yet to lose a game one in their miraculous playoff run, and their chances of continuing that streak look great if the Greek Freak stays on the bench for another night. The Suns have proved that bo one can doubt them anymore, as Chris Paul and Devin Booker have proved to be arguably the best backcourt in basketball right now, while third year big man Deandre Ayton has been superb as well.

Both teams have made it this far for two reasons: they’re led by a star core and have a remarkable team energy and unity playing with them. These squads aren’t always led by their stars. Be on the lookout for players like Brook Lopez and Pat Connaughton for the Bucks and Cameron Payne and Mikal Bridges for the Suns to have some impressive performances throughout this series.

I’m taking the Suns to win game one with or without Antetokounmpo in the lineup for the Bucks. Their energy in these playoffs has been extremely hard to rival and their streak of game one victories should be able to last through the final series. Now to be bold, I’ll take the Suns in 6, just like how they’ve won two of their previous series, and I can’t take anyone but Chris Paul as the finals MVP, for obvious reasons.

The Bucks and Suns are set to tip-off at 9 pm EST.
