1U Marcus Stroman (CHC) over 17.5 outs recorded (-110) available at DraftKings sportsbook at time of initial post to Twitter. Playable to -130 odds.

The Minnesota Twins offense is faltering of late. In the month of May against right-handed pitching the Twins have posted a .273 wOBA (26th), 24.8% K% (25th), and a wRC+ of 72 (26th.) During that span they have faced 9 right-handed starting pitchers with 7 of them producing 6 or more innings of work. The only misses were the inefficient Dylan Cease and yesterday when Hayden Wesneski dealt with a blow-up inning. Even Michael Kopech was able to reach 6 innings for just the 11th time in his last 33 starts. Guys like Peyton Battenfield (7 IP), Cal Quantrill (7 IP), Michael Wacha, and Seth Lugo are also included in this recent stretch.

Now Minnesota has to deal with Marcus Stroman who has been exceptional for the Cubs to begin his 2023 campaign. The 32-year-old right-hander has posted a 3.39 FIP so far, the best mark since his 2014 season. His one poor start this season was against the Dodgers. It was the only game he has allowed a home run this season (he allowed 3), and the only game that he didn't finish 6 full innings (ended after 5.) His other 7 starts have resulted in at least 18 outs while seeing as many as 100 pitches (averages 93.1.) Stroman is allowing a 2.4%-barrel rate which ranks 95th percentile and his sinker is generating a 57.3% ground ball rate. That is his highest mark since 2018 and keeping the ball on the ground with the infield defense he has behind him makes a lot of sense. In the month of May the Twins rank 26th in run value/100 against the sinker and 23rd against the cutter. Those 2 pitches account for 64.5% of his pitches.

Dating back to last season Stroman has covered this 17.5 outs line in 11 of 12 games and 11 of his last 15 road starts overall. According to BallparkPal, Target Field has the sharpest projected decrease in home run chances, partly in thanks to 10 MPH wind blowing in. Stroman is tied for the league lead with 7 quality starts this season and against a struggling Twins offense I expect another strong performance from the veteran right-hander.
