Entree (1u) - New York Mets F5 Spread -0.5 (-135 @ BetMGM)

This bet isn't about the Mets dominating on offense because they haven't done that really yet this season. They were shut out twice in the series versus the Brewers and they've started the season ranking in the bottom 5 in weighted runs created and on-base percentage. However, their typical starting lineup for last season isn't much different. They're still rocking out with Marte, Lindor, Pete Alonso, Mark Canha, Vogelbach, Jeff McNeil, and Eduardo Escobar. They just haven't been playing offense like they'd hope to and they're down Justin Verlander and Edwin Diaz for a significant amount of time (Diaz being the season). This bet is purely based on the pitching matchups.

The Mets are starting Kodai Senga for the third time this season. He has only allowed 2 runs in 2 starts with 6 hits total. He has allowed 6 walks but the Athletics were 27th last season in walk percentage and have started this season out at 23rd in walk percentage. The A's should put out 5 righties and 4 lefties. Senga is a rookie but he's allowed a 0.08 batting average vs righties this season. He's faced 29 right-handed batters. He's only faced 16 lefties and allowed a .286 batting average. The lefties he could face tonight would be Jace Peterson, Tony Kemp, Ryan Noda, and Conner Capel. Overall, he's allowing a .167 batting average, 1.13 whip, and a 2.39 xFIP in games on the road this season. Like I said, small sample size but he's started this season off great. Senga is averaging above a 30% strikeout rate versus both righties and lefties as well. The Athletics are 10th in strikeout percentage so far this season and were 6th highest to end 2022.

The other reason would be the Athletic's starter James Kaprielan. He's allowed 12 runs in two startson 14 hits and 5 walks. He's allowed .360 batting average, 2.25 whip, and a 5.17 xFIP versus lefties so far this season. Like mentioned before, the Mets haven't started this season offensively how they thought they would but I have faith in this Mets team tonight to hold a slight advantage over this A's team going into the midway point.

Kaprielan throws a 4-seam, slider, and sinker mainly and looking into last season's numbers with at least 25 plate appearances versus those pitchers, the Mets have guys across their starting 9 that can hit those pitches with high slugging rates and high weighted on-base averages. Let's see if the Mets can start to turn things around offensively tonight versus a plus matchup.
