The Tampa Bay Rays have been possibly the hottest hitting team in baseball to start this MLB season. With the likes of Yandy Diaz, Wander Franco, Randy Arozarena, and more, it's hard not to see some pop coming out of their bats. They're averaging 3.83 runs per game throughout the first 5 innings and they begin a home stretch today with a game versus the Oakland Athletics. The Athletics have allowed 4.33 runs per game throughout the first 5 innings so far this season and last season, they were 5th in most allowed runs throughout the first 5 innings. Athletics plan to put out Ken Waldichuk on the mound today.
There isn't currently any wind or weather conditions on the forecast in Tampa Bay that could affect homeruns, hits, or just batting in general, which is good news. Waldichuk is young and he will struggle to start his career sometimes and then he could have good games but it's hard to look at this game and not think that the Rays righties will continue to destroy the ball, especially at home. The Rays have multiple guys who are solid versus Waldichuk's pitch selection as well so that's why I'm going to back one of the best offenses in baseball this season.
